Premises

Le lieu“Les Tulipiers” kindergarden opened in September 2002. Initially located at 2, chemin de Frisco, it moved in September 2012 into a new 230 m2 ground floor arcade at 7, chemin de Frisco. Located in a pedestrian zone in the heart of the Tulipiers neighborhood, the arcade occupies a large crossing surface. Glazed on all sides to let in light, the arcade has been specifically designed to accommodate 33 children between 2 and 5 years.

All arrangements have been made in strict accordance with the specifications of the City of Geneva’s ICSD (Department of Construction and Technology), as well as the ELP (daycare site assessment) and received their approval to operate as a kindergarten and development workshops. Particular care was taken in selecting materials and planning so as to be consistent with our educational ideals while offering children a state-of-the art environment adapted to their needs.

Our location allows us to work with children both in urban than rural setting, because we are in the heart of the city of Geneva while being surrounded with nature. We can safely offer both indoor and outdoor activities thanks to our location in a pedestrian zone, away from all traffic lanes.

Our Kindergarten is at a walking distance from the Tram 12 “Grange Canal” stop and from the Gare des Eaux-Vives.

Pedagogy

La pédagogie

« A place where children want what they do » (Claparède)

Phase 1 – Adaptation

During the first two months, the smooth integration of new students is our utmost priority.

Children arrive in an unknown place full of unfamiliar faces. For most of them leave their safe and familiar home environment for the very first time.

Educational Method:

° Schedule progressive time slots so that children do not feel messed up in their habits and keep the desire to keep coming
° Establish a trusting relationship with the children and their parents
° Welcome crying, anxiety, emotional discharge of the children and accompany them
° Observe and understand each child so as to find, through games or rituals, which may give them pleasure and interest

Phase 2 – Education

Once the integration period is completed, we proceed in an atmosphere of trust where children feel comfortable and familiar with the institution.

Educational Method:

° Promote the overall development of the children through the game, which is both their work and their most spontaneous action mode
° Encourage children to be “actors” of their learning
° Create learning materials “with” the children and not “aside of them” so as to make such materials meaningful for them
° Having “common sense” but also “making sense” of the moments that make up the lives of the young children
° Allow children to test new knowledge
° Be a role model for the children, give them direction and guide them without doing things for them
° Encourage their desire to learn by capture their attention interest rather than merely regulating their behavior
° Work around a theme through the months to foster children development
° Stay connected with the requests of the group of children and adjust the program to meet their needs and individual rhythms
° Perpetually enrich the PLAYING
° Create a group dynamic that allows each and every child to find their landmarks and to adapt
° Establish rituals that change every day (daily meetings but enriched in a different way each day with a progression)
° Focus on continuity rather sequentiality (leave room for changes without losing the thread)
° Encourage children to understand, integrate and respect the rules of the place
° Establish an environment and spatial planning that allow children to be “active” in the game
° Provide a scalable and adequate equipment as well carefully thought playing areas
° Promote harmonious relations between adults and children
° Have a watchful eye for each child
° Stay tuned with the actual capacity of each child and have an appropriate response to the developmental level of the child at every development stage

Time spent in the kindergarten must include individual work and group work to develop the personality and learning each level and group membership and social development.

Team

NadegeNadège Rudant

Director, field educator

Certified early childhood educator since 2000, Nadège started by working for 6 years in a nursery with children of different age groups.

In 2007, she bought “Les Tulipiers” kindergarden with the support of the Fondetec and completely reworked the premises and the pedagogy to provide children with an ideal framework for their development, socialization and development.

With particular emphasis on respect for the individual identity of each child, she strongly believes that fostering pleasure and interest are essential tools for the development of children. Creative, spontaneous, listening to others, she imagines a caring and playful space dedicated to children where all learning can be transmitted through games, stimulating spatial arrangements and spirited educators.

Passionate about her work that she describes as a calling, she works extensively on the role of adults working in a small structure childhood.

NicolasNicolas Rudant

Co-director, field educator

Early childhood educator since 2005, he worked three years in nursery before joining “Les Tulipiers” kindergarden for two years. In 2010, he decided to expand his experience working for two years in two different nurseries while remaining deeply involved in “Les Tulipiers” by his reflections on the educational project as well as the creation and animation of “Les Z’atteliers et Z’anniversaires de Trafatruc”. In 2012, he returned to “Les Tulipiers”.

Thanks to his first training and professional experience in the field of interior design, it has developed an unique ability to imagine and implement highly creative decors that stimulate the imagination and development of children. Highly skilled with cardboard building, it gives life to children’s simple and more complex ideas and creates ephemeral constructions that animate and give meaning to their daily learning.

Enriched by his thoughts, his observations in the field and his research, his approach allows each child to gain confidence, grow and develop their personal and interpersonal skills through games, discovery and exchange.

Auxiliaries and Interns

We can count on the invaluable help of our auxiliary Adwoa who has been working with Nadège for more than 5 years after working in other nurseries. We also train and supervise trainees who plan on becoming early childhood educators as well as students who are already training at school and who seek to test and demonstrate their knowledge. Needless to say, Nadège and Nicolas are fully responsible for their training and committed to transmitting them the passion and skills needed for working with children.
